Jon & Lindsay Birkey

Lindsay is from Lincoln, Montana where she grew up hunting, fishing, hiking, and loving all things outdoors. Growing up with neighbors from the Blackfeet tribe and playing many Native American teams in sports, Lindsay was always interested in Native American culture and heritage. She gave her life to the Lord at age 7 at an afterschool Bible program, but was unsure of what this commitment meant for how she ought to live her life. At age 13, she began to attend youth group at a local church where her youth pastor had a great influence on her by showing her how to live as Christ would both in and out of church. She recommitted her life to the Lord, and He called her into ministry her senior year of high school. She attended Huntington University in Indiana, majoring in Family and Children’s Ministry. This is where she and Jon met.
Jon is from Bunker Hill, Indiana where he grew up attending church with his mother, father, two older brothers and older sister. His family was very involved in the church. He gave his life to the Lord when his heart was stirred at a concert in junior high. His youth pastor also played a big role in his life and walk with Christ. As Jon got older, he wanted to have the same impact on others as his youth pastor had in his life. He attended Huntington University as well, double majoring in Youth Ministry and Missions. A year older than Lindsay, Jon graduated from Huntington University in 2009 and served as a youth pastor in Illinois. After Lindsay’s graduation in 2010, they were married and she joined him in Illinois. In 2012, Jon and Lindsay felt the Lord calling them into missions. Jon had done an internship with World Gospel Mission (WGM) in college, and after reconnecting with them, Jon and Lindsay felt the Lord calling them to serve Him on the American Indian Field at the Southwest Indian Ministry Center in Peoria, Arizona.
Jon and Lindsay serve as Camp Directors at SIMC for children and youth camps. Their vision for the ministry in the future includes adding more camps like sports camps and music camps. They would also like to further develop the Leaders in Training (LIT) program for the youth. The LIT program is geared towards disciplining and equipping youth for leadership in their churches, schools and communities. Jon and Lindsay are also excited about further developing the camper follow-up program. Most of the children and youth who come to camp live hours away. Jon and Lindsay would like to develop a network of churches and pastors for kids to return to in their home areas who will help nurture them in their faith while they are not at camp. The ultimate dream for the ministry would be that God would stir the hearts of these children and youth and create in them a desire to transform generations through the love of Christ, fulfilling the Great Commission, and making disciples of all nations.
