Steve & Debbie Cartwright
Our story: We met in college and married a few years later, then spent 11 years in pastoral and youth pastorate ministries before we were appointed as missionaries to the Commonwealth of Dominica (in the Caribbean), where we served for three years before coming to Arizona to serve on the American Indian Field in 1999. During this time we also raised our three children – Stephanie, Aaron and Jennifer – and involved them in ministry, too. All three still live and work here in Arizona.
We have a number of responsibilities here on the American Indian Field. Steve is the Assistant Field Director and also is pastor at Siloam Indian Church on the Gila River Indian Community. He developed a guitar ministry called Victory Guitar Outreach and still helps people do classes and get the materials they need. Debbie helps at Siloam, sometimes teaching children & adults, sometimes preaching as well. She oversees evangelism & discipleship ministries for the AIF as well as compassionate ministries. Together, we both are facility directors of Southwest Indian Ministries Center, the AIF’s camp and retreat facility. We make sure everything is maintained, schedule usage of the buildings, oversee SIMC volunteers, and help all we can with AIF youth camp ministries as well.
Some people who have known us for years occasionally say they don’t recognize us. That’s because Steve has lost 180 pounds and maintained that loss for a few years now. Debbie has lost almost 90 pounds and is slowly inching her way to her goal of 100 pounds lost. God is actually using this in ministry and we love to encourage Native people and others we meet who are working toward getting healthier.
